I have seen a disturbing amount of trash talk on social media sites today making Amy Winehouse’s death into a laughing matter saying that it’s no surprise and that she should have said yes to rehab. To that I say:
What kind of fuckery is this?
Oh, you don’t know that that line is from her song “Me & Mr. Jones”? That’s because you never listened to her music and understood the immense talent that she had. I was a fan of hers before “Rehab” ever played in the United States, before all the tattoos, and before the drugs. To say that this is a loss for me is an understatement.
Amy had an incredible voice and her death is a true tragedy. At the tender age of 27, she now joins the likes of Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison as musicians who passed away at 27 from drug related causes.
Anyone who thinks this is funny or writes her death off as unimportant should be ashamed of themselves. She was only 27! Regardless of the circumstances, that alone is something to acknowledge as a tragedy.
Amy will forever live on because her voice and music speaks for itself. She was talented and taken too soon.
